My Life with God

A Busy Time

photo-1511772328218-a4252e13ab99My friend and I hosted a women’s night out at the church during one of the busiest times of the year – just over a week before Christmas. But that was the point. It was an invitation to take a break from the busyness and hang out with some friends. We kept it simple, and perhaps that was the best appeal.

We spread out several stations with different options of what to do. We used adjoining, open areas of the church to keep it accessible and cozy. We made sure to include warm drinks and comforting snacks.

We had a variety of women and girls come and go. Most used the majority of the time to sit at round tables with others and chat while coloring. It was relaxing, something many enjoy doing but rarely take the time unless it’s to color alongside a child. It’s easy to color while talking, and for many, those casual conversations were exactly what nourished their souls that evening.

It was a chance to breathe, connect, and savor. It was a reminder to take time – not when life slows down but particularly when life is busy – to notice and share life with people around you.

You might have a to-do list for your day and a full calendar for your week. You might not feel as if you can spare some time with a friend. But you might find it is one of the most important things you can do right now – not to accomplish something but to settle into life and enjoy the moment.
