My Life with God

My Day Started Without Me

photo-1489533119213-66a5cd877091I had unexpected Saturday down time. I started slowly and piddled a little but soon thought, “Where should I start?” But I quickly realized, “Wait. I’ve already started. I don’t need to start but to ask what’s next?”

Life, faith, relationships, etc., feel that way at times. It’s as if we piddle through some time then realize we’re not intentional. We don’t have to be physically active and productive every minute of the day. Intentional rest is important, too. There is an ebb and flow of healthy living, a constant pouring out of ourselves and trusting God to fill us – as we continue to pour out.

Intentionality is key.

I don’t want to miss out. It’s not the fear of missing out (FOMO as it’s commonly called) on fun, connections, attention, etc. It’s not a fear at all. It’s a desire to be purposeful. It’s settling into God’s presence and purpose deeply enough to be okay when he rattles me and says it’s time to change. It’s spending time with his priorities. It’s listening to him well and responding well – although that often looks messy with my humble yet sometimes misguided attempts.

I don’t want to miss out on living the life God created for me to live purposefully. I don’t want to look back and wonder why I didn’t start living well earlier. I want to savor the “now,” give God thanks, and lean into him as I ask, “What’s next?”
