Keep Notifications On

photo-1514464750060-00e6e34c8b8cMy work day was productive in a calm sense. It flowed. In a very busy season of work, it felt like a breather—as if I was literally able to catch my breath and make some progress instead of jumping from one task to another with little completion.

About an hour and a half before the end of the work day, I suddenly felt unsettled. It was as if I was burdened or churning. With so many illnesses going around, I thought perhaps I was getting sick, yet I quickly realized: this was not a physical unsettling. It was spiritual and emotional. I didn’t know what it was about, but I took a moment to focus on God, then continued to work.

Less than fifteen minutes later, my phone alerted me to a message, which asked if I could leave work right then and help someone.

I didn’t make the connection until later.

I was thankful to be able to help at a moment’s notice. I did what was needed and was grateful. I went back to work to finish up a couple things, then helped some more. And there was no more unsettling that evening. As I reflected later, I realized my phone notification was not the alert; God had already taken care of that. He had prepared me with a “get ready…”

I am grateful for his notifications. I don’t always know what they’re about, but if they are from him, they are worth intentional alertness.

Keep you God notifications on. Always.
