Even If God

Even If God

Who are you angry or frustrated with right now? Who stirs up discontentment? And who do you think can fix the issue?

You might have to sit with it for a moment, because sometimes, we displace our anger, frustration, and discouragement. Other times, we know exactly who it is. I remember when a friend was going through a horrific experience. Knowing the faith we share, I walked with her down an out-of-the-way hallway of the hospital, away from family and friends and curious strangers. And I told her, “It’s okay to be angry with God. He can handle it. And he already knows how you feel.” I was confident her anger wouldn’t last forever. But I also knew stuffing the anger could fester into bitterness if not brought to the surface.

Sometimes the person that you’re mad at (or frustrated with, or confused by, and so on) is the same person who can fix the problem, especially when it’s God. Oh, he certainly might not fix it the way you want it fixed, but you can trust him. He probably won’t fix it in the timing you prefer, but you can trust him. It won’t always feel that way, and especially in the middle of the mayhem and pain, you will not be able to see it. It feels like you are in the middle of a raging storm. Everything seems distorted and…too much. But God…

When several men in the Bible were facing a pretty awful situation, they declared, “We know God can…But even if he doesn’t, he’s still God and we will trust him” (paraphrased). I don’t know what’s happening in your life right now, but I want you to know today that you can trust God “even if he doesn’t” respond when and how you want. And you can trust him with your anger, frustration, and discouragement.
