This Week’s 7: Spring Break at Home

This Week’s 7: Spring Break at Home

Each Sunday on the Pure Purpose blog, I feature This Week’s 7, a simple list about an everyday topic, giving you ideas and encouragement. This week includes fun ways to enjoy Spring Break at home. While I primarily wrote this for those who have kids who will be inside much more than usual for several days in a row, all these ideas can be adjusted to your lifestage. Be creative, and enjoy. You don’t have to feel trapped within your house, and you don’t have to leave your house to have tons of fun. Create some memories at home!

  1. Picnic in the Living Room. Who doesn’t enjoy a picnic without the threat of weather and invasions of bugs? Take time to pack (no running back and forth from the kitchen!). Spread out the blanket and enjoy.
  2. Plant Something Inside. You don’t have to wait until the ground is warm to plant seeds. Plant starter plants inside and give them a jumpstart on growth. Choose vegetable plants, herbs, or flowers.
  3. Plan for Summer. Anticipate what possibilities the summer holds for you. Plans don’t have to be big. It might be little things around the house or community you enjoy but can only do in warmer months. Post plans on the refrigerator to soak in anticipation.
  4. Play Unexpectedly. Drop everything and play! Be silly. Go for an adventurous scavenger hunt. Build something from random items around the house.
  5. Paint. Whether it’s a creative painting project or something that needs to be done around the house, choose an age appropriate project to complete. Add some color to your day!
  6. Post. Record what’s happening so you can later reflect on the memories you’re making. Journal, draw, or photograph. Scrapbook or create a storybook.
  7. Pray. Here’s the most important part of Spring Break or any other day! Give it to God. Ask him to guide, inspire, and challenge you. Set aside your own agenda and yield to him. He’s the best personal planner available!
