Good Morning

Good Morning

I didn’t want to get out of bed. I had slept long enough, but my eyes were heavy from the effects of allergies. The cool morning spurred me to pull the covers up. My bed was cozy – and yet I needed to get out of bed, drive my daughter to an early day at school, and get ready for a full day. I wasn’t ready for the day. But the day was ready for me.

Brush teeth…Check. Wash hair…Check. Get dressed…Check. Check email…email.

I was out the door and on my way into the day. Something happened on the 20-minute drive to my small group study. As I stopped for my usual fountain drink, I realized how excited I was about the day ahead. I didn’t have anything spectacular planned, so I wondered how my attitude had changed from I’d-really-like-to-stay-in-bed-today to I-can’t-wait-to-live-today-to-its-fullest!

I started to reflect…

What a blessing to wake up in my comfortable bed. What a blessing to have a bed…and a home. I washed my hair with warm water. Blessing. I have clean clothes to wear…and plentiful choices. Blessing. I have access to electronics and technology to help me connect quickly and move on the other things. Blessing. My car started. Blessing. I drove my daughter to school. Blessing. Safe travels. Blessing. Encouraging music. Blessing. $1.01 to purchase my favorite fountain drink. Blessing.

As I pulled into the church parking lot, I was still listing the many blessings of my day. I realized even the mental process of reflecting on the blessings of the day was a blessing. I also realized I could miss more blessings by spending too much time reflecting on blessings!

It was going to be a joyful day. I didn’t know what all it entailed, if it would go smoothly, or it would be filled with crises. But I was certain of one thing: It would be filled with God’s blessings.

God fills our days with blessings. Are you looking for them? Acknowledging them? Savoring them?

I’ve often said I can learn something in every situation and from every teacher – even if it’s how not to live. Lessons of what not to do usually clarify what I am to do.

Let the blessings of your life stand out among the busyness, challenges, and crises. Give your day to God and say, “Good morning.” Today is a day of blessings.
