Each Sunday on the Pure Purpose blog, I feature This Week’s 7, a simple list about an everyday topic, giving you ideas and encouragement. Someone recently posted on my Facebook page, requesting encouraging reminders to study God’s Word each day. So today I’m sharing something I recently began doing, and I’m challenging you to modify it to fit your needs and style.
- Claim a word from God each morning. It might be from your daily reading or study. It might be from a Facebook post or blog. You can use a site such as BibleGateway to find a verse. If you have a friend who is disciplined about Bible study, ask her to help you develop a consistent habit by texting you a verse for the first month or so.
- Write the verse on an index card. Be sure to note the Bible version from which it’s quoted.
- Write the day’s date on the index card.
- Place the index card in a sheet protector. A page from a small photo album works well.
- Carry the index card with you throughout the day. Refer to it regularly.
- At the end of the day, jot any notes of how the verse encouraged or challenged you throughout the day in various situations.
- File the index card in order of Scripture verses.
As you begin to build your library of daily verses, you will
- build your familiarity with the Bible.
- watch for God moving in your life through his Word on a daily basis.
- compile snapshots of your faith journey to leave as legacy.
