Love The Name

Love The Name

PureLoveATLet heaven and earth praise Him,

The seas and everything that moves in them.

For God will save Zion and build the cities of Judah,

That they may dwell there and possess it.

The descendants of His servants will inherit it,

And those who love His name will dwell in it. (Psalm 69:34-36)

We sometimes limit God in our lives…even when we say we long for His presence. It’s often because we don’t know God as fully as we can. Of course, we cannot know Him completely. He is God, beyond our understanding. If we could fit Him into our minds, our minds would be as vast as the mind of God. We cannot be equal to God.

Today, we’ll spend some time widening our scope of Him. In order to love His name, we need to know His name. Let’s look at a few from Scripture. Take your time. Soak in God’s presence as He opens your eyes to who He is.

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. (1 John 2:1)

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8)

Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2)

Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.” (Matthew 1:23)

For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;

And the government will rest on His shoulders;

And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)

Therefore thus says the Lord God,

“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone,

A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed.

He who believes in it will not be disturbed.” (Isaiah 28:16)

I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. (John 10:11)

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” (Exodus 3:14)

That they may know that You alone, whose name is the Lord, are the Most High over all the earth. (Psalm 83:18)

She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21)

That you keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which He will bring about at the proper time—He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, (1 Timothy 6:14-15)

“Do not fear, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel; I will help you,” declares the Lord, “and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.” (Isaiah 41:14)

And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. (Luke 1:47)

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:6)

Accept.

Dear God, I don’t know You nearly as well as I want to. I know I can pursue You my entire life and still get to know You better every day along the way. I long to know You better. Help me to see where I have misunderstood You. Help me to see where I have limited my view of You. Reveal Yourself to me. I long for You.

Seek.

Which name of God stands out to you from today’s reading?

How has God provided for you?

Consider any way in which you have limited God by your understanding or lack of desire to know Him better.

Know.

For I proclaim the name of the Lord; Ascribe greatness to our God! (Deuteronomy 32:3)
