How is God using your today to prepare and purpose your tomorrow?

In the aftermath of the Newtown tragedy, a feeling of gloom and helplessness enveloped me. I wanted somehow for God to bring some good out of this unspeakable situation. I told others He would. I didn’t know how but trusted that He would. Journalist Ann Curry started a movement of “26 Acts of Kindness” to honor each victim. I was in!!! I prayed that God would open my eyes to those who needed a little kindness.

Several weeks later, I was shopping at the local Walmart. When I finished, I went to the car with cart in tow. It was so, so windy and cold. I ALWAYS put my cart away…Always. I tend to scorn those who do not. But this day, I spied a cart and decided I’d just add mine to it. When I got closer, I saw there was a purse in the basket of the car. A God thing, of course.

I looked around for somebody who might be on their way to retrieve it, but there was no one. I took the purse inside to the service desk. There were tons of people ahead of me, so I just stood there waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Eventually I saw a woman with a young boy coming toward the service desk with a look of panic on her face. I knew the purse was hers.

She said she had gotten all the way home before she realized she had left it in her cart. She was praying all the way back as her heart raced. When she saw another cart next to hers, she knew someone had found it, and her heart fell. She said she had been distracted by her grandson and wasn’t feeling too well, so she was in a hurry to get home. What a wonderful blessing for me to meet her and see the look of relief and joy on her face.

In a small way, this act of kindness honors those who died in Newtown. I’m thanking God for the opportunities He gives me.
