Several months ago, the lyrics of Well Done by The Afters resonated deeply with me.
What will it be like when my pain is gone
And all the worries of this world just fade away?
What will it be like when You call my name
And that moment when I see You face to face?
I’m waiting my whole life to hear You say
Well done, well done
My good and faithful one
Welcome to the place where you belong
Well done, well done
My beloved child
What will it be like?
I’m sure it will be amazing. I’m not really sure I’ll even think about how amazing it feels because it will simply be. I suppose what resonated with me so deeply was the related question of “What do I need to do with my today in order to experience ‘well done’ someday?”
I’m not talking about a performance or checking off a legalistic list. I’m referring to the subtle choices I make with my attitudes and thoughts, the way I respond to people and situations, the way I spend the limited time I have in the day and the opportunities God has gifted me.
Hearing “well done” someday is about doing and being well today. Keeping the long-term in mind includes attending to the right now. What’s next and what’s now twist together into a stronger thread.
Pay attention. Do well. Be well. Live well.
