A man’s own foolishness leads him astray, yet his heart rages against the Lord. (Proverbs 19:3 HCSB)
I glanced through the verse and those around it, yet as I continued, the wheels of my mind screeched. Rewind. Reread. Pause. Reflect.
Yes.
Our poor choices, our stubbornness, our pride leads us down a path with which we might not see anything wrong. We might even feel its great. We see it as progress and success. Then we encounter pitfalls and obstacles. But we don’t see those difficulties as consequences. We see them as impositions and injustices. We take credit for the things we want, and we blame others, including God, for the things we don’t. We internalize the good but flip the switch when the difficult responsibilities come along.
Rewind. Reread. Pause. Reflect. It might be time for a reality check.
