Imagine

Imagine

I grew up on a family farm, and I was the youngest daughter by several years. Those two situations watered my seeds of imagination. Whether I stood in the middle of our large rolling yard or traipsed through overgrown wooded areas, I looked around and imagined elaborate adventures.

Some days I’d pack up the Barbie camper and tote it to the designated “campsite”…a small flat area close to a small stream. I’d park the camper (on flat ground, of course) and unpack all the necessities. I didn’t have the actual Barbie camping supplies. I didn’t know what I was missing, and in my opinion, I wasn’t missing anything! I could cut a small square of moss for a picnic blanket, choose several small pebbles to serve as cups, and tear blades of grass to represent just about anything I could dream.

I wasn’t confined by existing reality.

Does your reality limit your possibilities? God knows the possibilities of your life. He’s not limited by the structure, situations, and relationships of your life. He can use anything or anybody (and that includes you!) to complete a story and fulfill a purpose.

Your perception or reality, and your imagination, is limited because you’re human. God is God, and he’s not limited. I assure you he’s not packing up your camper and playing with your life. He loves you too much. He longs to be in relationship with you. He wants you to seek and choose him. When you do, possibilities are limitless, because God is not limited.

You’ve probably heard William Arthur Ward’s famous words: “If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it.” I’ve always liked this quote. It makes me feel good. It motivates me. But it doesn’t reflect reality.

No amount of my imagining a real life with Barbie would transform her into a real person. My dreams of creating a world for my dolls wouldn’t bring them to life. We shouldn’t live in a dream world with the delusion it reflects reality…but nor should we pessimistically limit the possibilities before handing our lives and situations to God’s influence.

The truth is…if it’s within God’s will and you’re willing to be faithful, nothing is impossible with God. Imagine what God can achieve through you. Let God dream it and help you become it!

“I am the Lord, the God of every person on the earth. Nothing is impossible for me.” Jeremiah 32:27 (NCV)
