From Then On…

From Then On…

photo-1528995275615-3f15447d1d67As I was recently praying through Scripture, something I’ve considered before seemed to jump off the pages to me—the frequency of Scripture that refers to what God has done or spoken.

I’m not talking about specific situations, such as accounts of something that only happened once: Noah and the ark, Joshua and the walls of Jericho, Nehemiah and the rebuilding of Jerusalem, Paul’s shipwreck, Judas’ betrayal. I’m referring to the generality of God’s promises and declarations of his character.

God has brought…

God has created…

God has completed…

God has joined…

God has determined…

God has made a way…

These past tenses are not limited to the past but are ongoing. We miss some of the subtleties, but over and over Scripture states truths, such as,

God has brought and will continue to bring…

God has created and will continue to create…

God has completed and will continue to complete…

God has joined and will continue to join…

God has determined and will continue to determine…

God has made a way and continues that way…

God doesn’t break his promises. What he says…is. Who he is…remains. We can sometimes read Scripture as if it is a record of days gone by, but it is alive and active. And I am thankful. Read with a fresh perspective today.
