My Life with God

Flounder or Flourish

I stayed up late several nights in a row. I didn’t have to. In fact, I was tired enough to go to bed early, but I’d get a second wind and, before I knew it, the sleep hours were minimized. And it began to wear on me. I’d wake up and go to work without much of an issue, and being busy at work kept me alert. I’d get home, start to relax, and begin to feel the wear and tear. Yet I’d stay up late again.

It didn’t take long to catch up on sleep, but it was a good reminder for me, and perhaps it will help you, too. It’s not just about sleep. It’s about what we overlook and how we push. We obviously cannot be consistent all the time. Flexibility and spontaneity are good for us, but not at the sacrifice of authentic attention. When I consider how the intention of the rhythms of our spiritual lives wear on us or strengthen us, I sit up and pay attention, because I want to be intentional. Life can be wearisome, and intentional faith can invite the hope and wisdom we need.

Stay alert to you’re overlooking and pushing in recent days and days to come. Posture yourself for a flourishing faith.
