It’s All About the Accessories

It’s All About the Accessories

My youngest daughter and I ventured out for our last Prom shopping trip. We were ready for a day of fun together. We didn’t know how long the process of finding a dress and accessories would take, but we were ready for the adventure. After the long drive to our favorite Prom dress shopping spot, we pulled into the parking lot…and returned to the car less than an hour later.

Success!

The third dress was the winner. It was about as blingy as a dress could be, but because of the basic color, accessory options were fairly wide open. Now the creativity began!

We drove across town to our favorite accessory store. (If you’ve never visited Charming Charlie, give it a try…but be prepared to be there for quite awhile the first time!)  We meandered, thinking we knew what would look good but not finding anything that looked great. We needed help, so we invited store staff to give their input. They showed us a section of the store we’d completely missed, and it didn’t take long to find the “just right” options. One more store yielded the perfectly matched, fun shoes.

Shopping complete! All accessories coordinated and acquired!

I’m not much of a girly-girl. I need help when it comes to putting together the details, especially the accessories, of an outfit. But I know enough to know accessories are important. They can make a plain outfit look magnificent or a fabulous outfit look trashy. They can draw too much attention or the wrong kind of attention. They can make someone look like she’s trying too hard or not hard enough.

I want to choose the right accessories.

Adorn yourself with majesty and splendor, and clothe yourself with honor and glory. (Job 40:10, HCSB)

God is into accessories! However, before you grab your cute purse and rationalize shopping for another one to go with your new outfit, keep in mind God prefers to do the shopping for us. He’ll fill our closets with the best options for our wardrobes if we let him. He’s creative, colorful, and tasteful. He knows what looks best on us: the qualities he created us to accept and embrace because they match him. He knows how beautiful we’ll look when we gaze into the mirror, because we reflect him.

So…are you ready to accessorize?
