A friend’s recent tweet: “Coffee shop didn’t have coffee ready when I got there…umm, isn’t that why you exist?”
When have you experienced something similar? You’ve expected something from a thought-to-be reliable source, but you were saddened, frustrated, surprised to face the reality of dashed expectations.
Let’s make it more personal. When have you been the source of disappointment – sadness, frustration, surprise – because you didn’t live out the “why” of your existence – your purpose?
Both my hands are raised in the air as I scream “I have! I have!” Ouch! Reality hurts. In addition to the times I can recall, I’m certain there are many times I didn’t even realize what I was missing. I’m not sure which is worse. However, there are a few things I know.
- If we were to share our shortcomings right now, I wouldn’t compare lists with you. Your life is different from mine, and God leads, uses, and convicts us in different ways along different paths. Be he does lead, use and convict us. God’s not excluding us. The issue is whether or not we’re listening and obeying.
- Despite my missed opportunities, God continues to be active. When I don’t listen or am not obedience, my relationship with God suffers – but he sees the big picture and works through my messes. My choices have an impact but I’m not powerful enough to mess up his plan.
- Most important, I can always rely on God’s existence. He’s consistently dependable and reliable to guide and provide – and his provision is way better than a cup of morning coffee!
Oh, and if you wonder about your purpose, why you exist…
Bring all who claim me as their God, for I have made them for my glory. It was I who created them. Isaiah 43:7
Glory God today!
Thank you, for getting my day off to a better start. Needed this!
It’s like having a cup of coffee together! Well, except that I don’t like coffee. Hot chocolate perhaps! Oh, I think I’ll fix one right now!
