Out of Overwhelmed

Out of Overwhelmed

photo-1546472466-081e1113893aI love life. I love faith. I love God.

I love pursuing him and the life he purposes for me.

But…that love wanes at times. Sometimes I’m tired or overwhelmed or hurt, and I just want to give up and give in. I’m done. Those moments and seasons are difficult and dark.

But I’ve lived long enough to know God fans the flame and reminds me of his goodness and presence. My passion for pursuit reignites and grows, and I am energized once again.

As I settled in for the night recently, that’s exactly what happened. It would have been easy to flop into bed and collapse. I was tired. But I kneeled beside my bed in obedience. And I called out to God in my weariness. And I was suddenly overwhelmed, not with the burdens of life but with the presence of God and my commitment to him.

So, I told him. “I will pursue you no matter what.” That no matter what phrase is a tough one.

A pursuit is not constant. We’re not completely consumed with the pursuit so that we neglect everything else in our lives. But what we pursue with perseverance is an underlying drive in our lives. We are never too far from the pursuit for long.

What or whom are you pursuing?

Be careful. Your pursuits can take you to many places. Choose well.

  1. Thank you for sharing! I, too, pursue my God, and I too, sometimes feel
Like it is fruitless. But, I plod along in the darkness, waiting for the light. I love your writing!

    1. Thank you. Yes, it sometimes feels like plodding along or slogging through then other times feels as if we are fun forward in freedom and unburdened anticipation. It is a good thing our feelings don’t determine our faith. I would be in trouble! 🙂
