Gratitude is not settling. It is not setting aside of our hopes, desires, dreams, and sense of justice. Misguided gratitude positions us in a vulnerable, unhealthy place. It is the position in which we allow, look beyond, and perhaps don’t even notice deception, manipulation, or abuse. I’m not referring to the personal infringements we’re sensitive to; we see those fairly readily, but the true deception, manipulation, and abuse—the way God defines it. We distort those more frequently. But gratitude positions us to filter in truth because of the humility it requires.
Today is a good day to choose a position of humility.
